Dental Bridges On Obolon
What it is
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth in a row. The artificial tooth — the pontic — is joined to crowns that are cemented onto the neighbouring teeth on both sides of the gap, so the bridge rests on them like on piers.
At VILIDA in Obolon, bridges are made by a prosthodontist. The prosthodontist assesses the teeth that will support the bridge and the gums, takes an X-ray and suggests the material — porcelain-fused-to-metal, zirconia or E.max ceramic — or another type of bridge: adhesive, cantilever or implant-supported.

Who a dental bridge is for
A bridge closes a gap when the teeth next to it are strong enough to hold it. Which bridge suits you — and whether a bridge is the right choice at all — the prosthodontist will decide after an examination and an X-ray.
A bridge is recommended if
- One tooth or two neighbouring teeth are missing
- The teeth on both sides of the gap are strong and can serve as supports
- The neighbouring teeth already have large fillings or crowns, so preparing them for a bridge costs little
- An implant is not possible now or you are not ready for surgery, and a removable denture does not suit you
- You want fixed teeth without surgery
Another option may suit you if
- The neighbouring teeth are healthy and intact — to avoid preparing them, a crown on an implant or an adhesive bridge is considered
- There is no tooth to support the bridge at the back, or many teeth are missing — then a cast partial denture or implants
- The teeth that should hold the bridge are loose or the gums bleed — start with gum treatment
- The root of a supporting tooth is affected — the tooth is treated first or another plan is made
How much a dental bridge costs
A bridge is priced per unit: each supporting crown and each pontic is one unit and costs the same as a crown in that material. A bridge replacing one tooth has three units; replacing two teeth in a row, four.
| Missing teeth | Metal-ceramic | Zirconia | Units in the bridge |
|---|---|---|---|
| One | 25 200 UAH | 37 500 UAH | 3 |
| Two in a row | 33 600 UAH | 50 000 UAH | 4 |
This is the cost of the bridge itself including cementation, as in the VILIDA price list; X-rays, treatment and preparation of the supporting teeth are charged separately. If three or more teeth are missing, the prosthodontist decides how many supports are needed and whether a bridge is possible at all. An E.max ceramic bridge for front teeth is priced like ceramic crowns, and the prosthodontist will give you the cost of an adhesive or cantilever bridge at the consultation.

Types of dental bridges
Bridges differ in what supports them and in the material.
-
Conventional
Supporting crowns cover the neighbouring teeth on both sides of the gap. The most common type; it is made of porcelain-fused-to-metal, zirconia and, for front teeth, E.max ceramic.
-
Adhesive
The artificial tooth is held on the neighbouring teeth by thin wings or a fibre-glass strip bonded to their inner surfaces. The neighbouring teeth are barely prepared.
-
Cantilever
Supported on one side of the gap only. It is used selectively, mostly to replace a front tooth, because a single support takes the whole load.
-
On implants
Implants, not your own teeth, act as supports, so several teeth in a row can be replaced without preparing the neighbours. More on the implant-supported prosthetics page.
Adhesive bridge
An adhesive bridge is a conservative way to replace one tooth, most often a front one. The artificial tooth is bonded to the neighbouring teeth from the inside: with thin wings or a fibre-glass strip. The supporting teeth are barely prepared, so this option is chosen when they are healthy.
It has limits too: an adhesive bridge is designed for moderate load and can come loose — then it is bonded again. Whether it suits you and how much it costs, the prosthodontist will tell you at the consultation.
What a dental bridge looks like
A conventional bridge is several crowns joined together. The end crowns fit over the prepared supporting teeth and are cemented, while the pontic rests on the gum where the tooth is missing.

This is how it looks in real life: a tooth was missing in the upper side area — the gap was closed with a bridge, and the row is complete again.
Bridge or implant
When one tooth is missing, the choice is usually between a bridge and an implant. The key question is what happens to the neighbouring teeth and whether you are ready for surgery.
| Criterion | Bridge | Implant |
|---|---|---|
| Neighbouring teeth | Prepared for crowns; minimally for an adhesive bridge | Left untouched |
| Surgery | Not needed | Needed — implant placement, sometimes with bone grafting |
| When it suits | Neighbouring teeth already have fillings or crowns; an implant is not an option now | Neighbouring teeth are healthy, there is enough bone |
| Care | Clean under the pontic with floss and a threader or an interdental brush | Like your own teeth, plus implant check-ups |
If several teeth are missing and there is no support at the back, see the comparison with removable dentures on the cast partial dentures page.
How a dental bridge is fitted
-
Examination
At the consultation the prosthodontist checks the teeth around the gap, the gums and the X-ray, recommends the type of bridge and material and calculates the cost. Any diseased teeth or gums are treated first.
-
Preparing the supporting teeth
The teeth are reshaped for crowns so the bridge fits snugly and is not bulky. For an adhesive bridge only a little enamel is removed, from the inner side.
-
Impressions and a temporary bridge
The prosthodontist takes impressions or a digital scan and fits a temporary bridge on the prepared teeth: it protects them and lets you chew and smile as usual.
-
Try-in
The finished bridge is tried in: how closely it fits the supporting teeth, whether it interferes with closing your jaws, and whether its shade matches the neighbouring teeth.
-
Cementation
The bridge is cemented onto the supporting teeth, the bite is checked again, and you are shown how to clean under the pontic.
Bridge care and what to do if it comes off
A bridge is not removable, so you care for it every day together with your own teeth.
- Clean under the pontic: a toothbrush cannot reach there — use floss with a threader, an interdental brush or a water flosser.
- Brush the supporting teeth especially carefully along the gums: if decay starts under a crown, the whole bridge suffers.
- Come for check-ups and professional cleaning — the prosthodontist will check the bridge and the supporting teeth.
If the bridge starts to wobble, a supporting tooth hurts or the bridge comes off, do not wait for your regular check-up. Keep the bridge and do not glue it back yourself: glue not meant for teeth can damage the gums and supporting teeth, and afterwards the bridge may no longer fit. If the supporting teeth are intact, the bridge can often be cemented again.

Questions and answers
How much does a bridge for one missing tooth cost?
A bridge replacing one tooth has three units: two supporting crowns and a pontic. Each unit costs the same as a crown in that material, so the whole bridge in metal-ceramic is 25 200 UAH, in zirconia 37 500 UAH. Preparation of the teeth and X-rays are charged separately.
Can a bridge replace four teeth?
A bridge is usually placed when one or two teeth in a row are missing. The longer the gap, the greater the load on the supporting teeth, so four missing teeth are more often replaced with implants or a removable denture. The prosthodontist makes the final decision based on the supporting teeth.
How long does a dental bridge last?
With good care, for years. It depends on the condition of the supporting teeth, how clean the area under the pontic is kept and the load; at check-ups the prosthodontist examines both the bridge and the supporting teeth.
Which is better: a bridge or an implant?
An implant does not involve the neighbouring teeth but requires surgery and enough bone. A bridge needs no surgery, but the neighbouring teeth are prepared for crowns — which makes sense if they already have fillings or crowns. See the comparison table above.
Does getting a bridge hurt, and are the teeth reshaped?
The supporting teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic, so the procedure is painless. For a conventional bridge a layer of tissue is removed all around the tooth; for an adhesive bridge only a little from the inner side.
What should I do if my bridge comes off?
Keep the bridge and book a visit to the prosthodontist. Do not glue it back yourself: glue not meant for teeth can damage the gums and supporting teeth, and afterwards the bridge may no longer fit. If the supporting teeth are intact, the bridge can often be cemented again.
What is an adhesive bridge?
A bridge in which the artificial tooth is held on the neighbouring teeth by thin wings or a fibre-glass strip bonded to their inner surfaces. The neighbouring teeth are barely prepared, so it is chosen when they are healthy; the prosthodontist will give you the cost at the consultation.
Will a bridge on the front teeth be noticeable?
For front teeth zirconia or E.max ceramic is chosen — in shade and translucency they are close to natural teeth. Metal-ceramic can show a dark line at the gum over time; why this happens is explained on the porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns page.
