Prosthodontics On Obolon
What it is
Dental prosthetics (prosthodontics) means restoring damaged teeth and replacing missing ones with artificial restorations: inlays, crowns, veneers, bridges, implant-supported prostheses and removable dentures. This is the work of a prosthodontist.
At VILIDA in Obolon, prosthetic treatment is led by a prosthodontist. They assess your teeth, gums and bite, take X-rays if needed and draw up a plan, from a single inlay to restoring a whole jaw. If a tooth can be saved, treatment starts there, and the restoration is chosen so that as little of your own tooth as possible is removed.

What suits your situation
The choice of prosthesis depends above all on how much of the tooth is left and how many teeth are missing. This is where the conversation with the prosthodontist usually starts.
-
Tooth broken down, root is sound
A large cavity in a back tooth is restored with an inlay or onlay, a badly broken-down tooth with a crown.
-
Dark or worn front teeth
The colour and shape of front teeth are changed with veneers or E.max ceramic crowns, depending on how much of the tooth is left.
-
One tooth missing
A crown on an implant leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched. A bridge makes sense when the neighbouring teeth need crowns anyway.
-
Several teeth missing
A bridge, crowns and bridges on implants, or a cast partial denture if there is no tooth left at the back for support.
-
No teeth left in the jaw
A fixed prosthesis on 4 or 6 implants (All-on-4, All-on-6) or a complete removable denture that rests on the gums.
Who needs prosthetic treatment
A prosthesis is needed when a tooth can no longer be restored with a filling or is missing. But first the prosthodontist checks that your teeth and gums are ready: a prosthesis placed on a diseased tooth will not last long.
Prosthetic treatment is recommended if
- A tooth is badly broken down or has a large old filling that is crumbling
- After root canal treatment the tooth has become brittle and may crack
- One or more teeth are missing, chewing is uncomfortable and the neighbouring teeth are shifting
- Front teeth have darkened, worn down or have gaps, and a filling will no longer help
- Old crowns or bridges have worn out: they look dark near the gums, feel loose or hurt
Other treatment comes first if
- There is decay or root canal inflammation: the teeth are treated first
- Gums bleed or teeth are loose: start with gum treatment
- A tooth cannot be saved: it is extracted and a replacement is planned
- There is not enough bone for an implant: bone grafting comes first
- The chip is small: aesthetic restoration is often enough

How prosthetic treatment works
-
Consultation and diagnostics
The prosthodontist checks your teeth, gums and how your jaws close together, refers you for an X-ray or CT scan if needed and explains the options with prices.
-
Treatment and preparation
Decay, root canals or gums are treated, and teeth that cannot be saved are extracted. For implant-supported prostheses, the implants are placed first.
-
Plan and choice of restoration
Together with the prosthodontist you choose the type of prosthesis and the material, and the shade is matched to your teeth with a shade guide.
-
Impressions and temporaries
The teeth are scanned or impressions are taken for the laboratory. If needed, temporary crowns are placed on the prepared teeth so you can chew and smile as usual.
-
Fabrication and try-in
The technician makes the restoration on a model, and the prosthodontist tries it in: how it fits, whether your jaws close comfortably and whether the shade matches.
-
Fixation and follow-up
The prosthesis is fixed, the bite is checked and you are shown how to care for it. After that come check-ups and professional hygiene.
How much dental prosthetics cost
The cost depends on the type of restoration and the material. Below are the main items of the VILIDA price list, including fixation. X-rays, treatment and preparation of the teeth are charged separately; the prosthodontist will give you the exact amount once the plan is ready.

Case example
The front teeth had yellowed, worn down and darkened. They were restored with zirconia crowns and veneers, and the smile is even and bright again.

Questions and answers
What is dental prosthetics?
It is restoring damaged teeth and replacing missing ones with artificial restorations. Part of a tooth is restored with an inlay, the whole tooth with a crown, and a missing tooth is replaced with a bridge, an implant crown or a removable denture.
What does a prosthodontist do?
A prosthodontist restores teeth with prostheses: inlays, crowns, veneers, bridges, implant-supported prostheses and removable dentures. They also draw up the treatment plan, choose the material and check the bite. Fillings and root canal treatment are done by a general dentist, and implants are placed by an implant surgeon.
Which dental prostheses are best?
There is no single best prosthesis. Fixed ones, such as crowns, bridges and implant-supported prostheses, are more comfortable and closer to natural teeth. Removable ones are used when a fixed prosthesis is not possible or does not fit the budget. Which is best for you, the prosthodontist will say after an exam: it depends on the number and condition of your teeth, bone and gums.
How much does dental prosthetics cost?
It depends on the restoration: an inlay costs from 12 600 UAH, a crown from 8 400 UAH, a veneer from 19 000 UAH, an implant crown from 13 000 UAH. A bridge is priced per unit: each of its crowns and each artificial tooth costs the same as a separate crown.
What can replace missing teeth?
For one or two teeth, an implant crown or a bridge. When several are missing, bridges, implants or a cast partial denture. When there are no teeth left in the jaw, a fixed prosthesis on 4 or 6 implants (All-on-4, All-on-6) or a complete removable denture.
How long does prosthetic treatment take?
It depends on whether treatment is needed first and which prosthesis is chosen. An inlay or crown is quicker, implant-supported prostheses take longer because the implants need to heal. The prosthodontist will give you the timing once the plan is ready; temporary restorations are placed while the prosthesis is being made.
How long do crowns and prostheses last?
With good care, crowns and prostheses last for many years. Exactly how long depends on the material, the load and the condition of the supporting teeth and gums, so brush carefully and do not skip check-ups.
Can you live without a tooth for long?
It is better not to wait. The neighbouring teeth gradually tilt into the gap, the opposite tooth drifts out of place and the bone where the tooth was lost shrinks, so restoring it later becomes more complex and more expensive.
